Triethoxysilyl-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbene ligands were synthesized to prepare 2nd generation Ru olefin metathesis catalysts. These complexes were grafted onto silica nanoparticles and their catalytic activity was modulated by redox-responsive polyvinylferrocene polymers. Chemical oxidation method was used for immobilized polymers to deactivate the surface attached Ru catalyst in ROMP reactions of norbornene.
