Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a growing global concern. Circulating lipids are strongly and linearly associated with risk of CHD, but evidence for a causal relationship is conflicting and insufficient. Study of underlying metabolic pathways implicated in the association between lipids and CHD would help to disentangle and elucidate these complex relationships.
