Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) lineages differ in clinical presentation, virulence, transmission, drug resistance and immunological responses. Here, we review the published spoligotype data to determine the distribution and diversity of MTB lineages in India, which has the largest burden of TB in the world.
