Multiferroic systems have more than one functionality, i.e. ferromagnetism, ferroelectricity, ferroelasticity and ferrotoroidicity. In nature there are few materials that display multiferroic behaviour, thus research has focused on artificial multiferroic systems, such as piezoelectric (PE) substrate with magnetostrictive (FM) films grown on top.
